Approximately 19 million Americans experience depression, yet only
1 in 10 will ever seek treatment. The DEPRESSION SELF-TEST is
a simple 20-question quiz that can help identify common symptoms of
depression and their severity. Remember—depression is more than
just feeling down. It is a real medical condition that can be effectively
treated, but first you must seek help.
This screener is called the Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptomatology
(Self Report) (QUIDS-SR), and was developed by A. John Rush, MD,
a leading psychiatrist and author from the University of Texas Medical
Center.
This test is adapted from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual
of Mental Disorders, 4th Ed. Washington, DC: American Psychiatric
Association; 1994.
